Feeling the heat? What rising temperatures mean for business

London Climate Action Week (LCAW) 2026 brought the financial and sustainability sectors together to confront the hard truth that nature risk can no longer live in a silo.

We marked the week with two events of our own – an interactive breakfast round-table and a co-hosted wrap-up drinks reception with our partners Novisto – and the conversations at both left us energised about where the industry goes next.

At our breakfast round-table, ‘Climate and Nature Risk Through the Lens of Financial Materiality’ we heard the consistent message that risk ownership needs to broaden. Nature risk can’t sit solely with sustainability teams – finance, risk, and investment functions all need a seat at the table, and portfolio managers in particular need enough fluency in nature data to act on it.

That fluency, though, doesn’t necessarily come easily. Nature is scientific and complex, and financial audiences aren’t yet conversant in its language. We heard resounding sentiment that closing this gap means investing in genuine capacity-building – from basic nature-data literacy to specific upskilling on emerging concepts like Nature Value at Risk (NVaR) – and grounding scenarios in real-world constraints rather than abstract theory, so they make immediate sense, and in turn, actually drive action.

On data, the message was equally – and refreshingly – clear in that baseline biodiversity data is old news. The real unlock is granular, asset- and supplier-level detail that can be layered with water risk, BII, and other metrics to prioritise where to act. And financial materiality doesn’t always track with nature materiality – an asset can be immaterial financially yet carry outsized nature risk, which means both lenses are needed side by side.

We then pivoted to our co-hosted drinks event with Novisto – the perfect tonic to a ravaging heatwave! Here, discussions spanned a broad range of topics, but the threads of conversation throughout the week could be summed up into integration, capacity, and precision.

Thank you to everyone who joined us at our events, especially the new and old faces we had the chance to catch up with in person – we’re looking forward to carrying these conversations forward!
